It's not the most appealing though is it? You've just done a tough 8 hours at your desk, your boss has been on your case, the coffee machines broke and you have to do it all again tomorrow.
Dragging yourself to the gym at 5pm isn't top of your list at the minute. But you've worked hard to get in shape and you want to keep those great results you've achieved so far. So what do you do?
You need to get into the routine of doing a few simple things each time you have a post office workout scheduled. Here's my 5 top tips to make sure you don't skip the gym after you clock off!
Use your office space to display some of your fitness goals - pin a photo of your favourite buff celebrity on to your desk to spur you on. Put a picture of your summer holiday destination on top of your computer. Anything to remind you of your motivation or why you should be getting into the gym after you finish work!
Eat breakfast and pack some healthy snacks - eating a healthy breakfast within one hour of waking up is the first step to making sure your workout is a good one. It might be a few hours between breakfast and your session but a good quality breakfast will keep your glycogen stores topped up and keep you fuelled throughout the day. Also try and eat a pre workout snack 45 mins before you leave the office. Fruit and anything else carb based is great.
Schedule your session into your week - add a reminder into your phone or calendar, and make sure your gym session is regular so you know exactly when your going. It shouldn’t be a spur of the moment thing (although that’s great if you get a little extra urge to go), your sessions should be planned into your week.
Under promise and over deliver - tell yourself your going to do at least 30 mins in the gym. If the goal is really easy your more like to start it, and potentially over deliver on it. Plus you can do a perfectly good session in 30 mins!
Forget about how you 'feel' - as the clock approaches 5pm and your feeling tired, moody etc. try and switch off from these feeling and just focus on how your going to smash it in your workout. If you can switch off the part of your brain that's telling you your tired for example and just start thinking about how great your going to feel after your workout, you'll stop yourself from dwelling on the negatives. Every time you start thinking 'I just don't feel like it' switch off and think of something else.
